Library Reading Garden

A tranquil Reading Garden has been developed on land generously donated to the Sandy Springs Branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System by the Sandy Springs Woman’s Club.  It is located immediately adjacent to the east side of the Library (395 Mount Vernon Highway).  Landscaping improvements have been made possible by a host of community efforts under the direction of Art Sandy Springs.

ArtSS hosted the dedication of the Reading Garden April 18, 2010 in a community-wide ceremony, A Celebration of Peace.  It was presided over by the Mayor of Sandy Springs, Eva Galambos, and Tom Lowe, the Fulton County Commissioner representing District 4.  The participants were entertained with music by The Franklin Pond Student Quartet and the Ridgeview (Middle School) Singers.  The highlight was the unveiling of an international peace pole and a classical-designed labyrinth by the Heards Ferry Girl Scout Troop #26304, and the recitation by sixteen Riverwood International Charter School students of prayers for peace in their native languages.  Andrea K. Smith, a Co-Founder of Atlanta Peace Trails, welcomed the Sandy Springs peace pole as a "Place of Peace", the 40th in metro-Atlanta, and shared a brief historical perspective of labyrinths and peace poles.

Please come and enjoy this tranquil setting in the company of a good book!
